Lea’s Song is the first book in a series of Chapter Books for the preteen. It addresses the issues of prejudice, basic spirituality, The Golden Rule, gangs, birth and death, evolution, honor system, dedicated friendships and counting one’s blessings - no matter what.

Lea is the first horse born with hooves into a herd of prehistoric horses (miniatures with soft toes). She has a multi-colored coat, unlike any member of the herd and is not accepted because she looks different.

The story is her life’s journey, venturing into The Forest where no horse of The Meadow has ever gone before. She carries the love and strength taught by her parents into each challenge she faces, the ultimate one of meeting Star, The Leader of The Gang. Lea becomes a legend; a strange little being who was brave enough to leave a path of Love, Light and Laughter for others to follow. Lea grows a spectacular horn that grows a new knob each time she helps someone.

Lea has a wise spirit guide that helps her to stay on her Path, a lovely snow owl, the life long companion she calls Mister Owl.

Lea's Song:

The first book of a series

By JaiLeen Shepherd

Children’s Books

Lea’s Song is a multi-layered saga designed to appeal to children on many levels.  It is rich with visual images of nature and the growth, travels, and encounters of a unique horse.  Woven through the passages are basic values and lessons of life, including seeking one's path, accepting differences, being thankful for everyone and everything, and accepting one's self.  Finally, there is the spiritual level with its gentle reassurance that things are as they are meant to be even when we are filled with doubt.

LEA’S SONG is a delightful and gifted piece of literature and art that appeals to the child within every adult, as well as the children. It covers the lives of animals in a loving and sensitive manner.  It is one story that I, even at ninety years old, love and never tire of hearing.

I find ANAN a precious, delightful and fun being that is very realistic. Adults, as well as children, will find themselves in her as she bumbles through life as we all have and are doing…

Catherine Lemmon

Anan is the second book in the series of Chapter Books for the preteen dealing with disability and challenges.

Anan runs away from home, to get away from ridicule of looking different and babbling, a problem that developed from trying to explain her self in what she wanted to share.

She did not have the parenting, as Lea did, to give her self-confidence. The day Anan runs away, she meets Lea; who teaches her to always count her blessings, no matter what.

Lea passes her wisdom to Anan and shows her the Path back to The Meadow. Anan stumbles and bumbles her way, unsure of her decisions but with Spirit (her invisible guide) she finds her way and ultimately learns and teaches us a most important fact: The Balance of Nature. Anan learns many things from Goldie, the honeybee heir to the Golden Hive.

Anan, too, has a healing horn, which she uses in miraculous demonstrations. She falls in love with Bo, the son of Star, (Lea’s friend) and has a little filly, a wise, feisty premature little horse called Suzi-Q.

Suzi-Q, a spirited little horse, wise beyond her years becomes a caregiver for Ashie, born with deformed fetlocks. Their journey covers life’s challenges of discipline, understanding everyone’s way of life, becoming spiritual seekers and the ultimate lesson of keeping one’s promises.

Their path takes them to meet Anan’s friends and families and to meet the masterful teacher St. William Buffalo, who tells them they are Teachers of Love, the same path of Lea and Anan. They help to change the Demons of the Dark to become Servers of the Light as they fulfill their own life’s desires.

They become acquainted with their personal Guardian Angels as well as meeting one of Creator’s Archangels…who knows Lea and Suzi-Q’s mother, Anan.

Being a grandmother of an 8 yr. old girl that likes to read, I wanted to give her some material that has substance, such as Lea's Song and Anan, the first two books of the Lea Trilogy. I hope that the third one is as interesting as the first two, I could not put them down.

They have morals in them and teach kindness, which is a rewarding thing to be. And to be thankful for all our blessings, prayers before we eat and ask for blessing for our food, which in our time is more important (because of all the chemicals) than ever.

I hope that parents will read the books with their children and make sure that the examples are practiced…

Inspiring as always, author JaiLeen Shepard certainly does not disappoint her fans with her latest offering and the final novel in her Lea Trilogy: Suzi-Q: Anan’s Daughter

Suzi-Q: Anna’s Daughter is uplifting reading adults and children alike can learn life lessons from.  Shepherd has done an excellent job in taking normally hard issues to broach with children and making it easy.  This is a book that parents should sit down and take time to read with their children.
